13.7.15 Y4 Woodrush rugby

13.7.15 Y4 Woodrush rugby

After 4 weeks training with a coach; on Monday 13th July we went to Woodrush Rugby Club to play tag rugby, the other school was The Coppice. We had 4 teams Blazers, Guardians, Rangers and Yo-yo’s.  – Asvitha

‘Not one child complained, they were amazing to take out and listened to everything they were told. Well done Y4’. Reported back Miss Skelton. Here are the Y4 thoughts;

‘There were no winners it was for fun.’ Said Theo ’I had so much fun playing a new sport it was cool.’

‘I scored a try the first time I got the ball. I ran through the opposition with the ball and scored a try.’ Kallie

‘The day was AMAZING and Alfie scored 16 tries.’ Josh ‘It was amazing getting the chance to play tag rugby.’Alfie

‘It was really fun.’ Evie ‘It was amazing and I want to do it again.’ Sean

The children had wonderful things to say about the afternoon, even though they had to play through the rain and drizzly conditions making the ball wet and slippery.

Sunday 12th July Wythall Fun Run

Sunday 12th July Wythall Fun Run

On Sunday hundreds of people got their running shoes on for the annual fun run. The adults had the pleasure of running first either 10km of 5km. Mr Dix lined up with at least 2 parents from Hollywood Mr Alleyne and Mr Guest and several former pupils including Jacob Alleyne, Emily McNab, James Fox, Michael Mc Nab, George Mc Meechan and Charlotte Moore along with Mrs Grundys daughter, who all unfortunately got a little wet when the rain came down.

Then came the main event as 21 current pupils set off on the 1500m course along with Mrs Hayward and her children to reclaim the schools trophy.

With 3 finishers in the top 5 Henry F 1st , Jago G 3rd and Eddie F 5th all under 7mins, the competition was a foregone conclusion.

Well done all children who took part and finished the best part of a mile and Thankyou Miss Ansell and Mrs Grundy for the moral support and Mrs Powell for handing out the winning numbers.

10.7.15 School Games Golf Final

10.7.15 School Games Golf Final

Hollywood returned to the Summer School games for an unpresidented 14th city final in 3 years and for the 3rd time in golf.

Hollywood had scored highly in the previous round and would have to again to be in with a shout. This year we were asked to represent New Zealand so we painted our faces like Mauris and waved our flag proudly.

Some of our golf shots were excellent and this year we didn’t lose a ball, but our scoring wasn’t high enough on some of the stations. We finished 9th of 10 with over 700 points, but it was half of the winner total. They must have been very good, Future Rory McIlroy and Laura Davis’. We all had fun and got a sun tan, then went to Wythall park for a play as a reward before going back to school and sharing the result in Assembly.

Schools Sailing Regatta 2015

Schools Sailing Regatta 2015

There was 4 schools entered into the regatta including Hollywood Primary School. We were all sailing oppies (Optimist sailing dinghies) in two groups’ beginners and improvers under the age of 12yrs old. Everyone did two races by themselves in the boats against everyone else in their group. We all had to wear RYA Onboard race rashvests.
In the beginner’s race, they had to race from the side to the red buoy twice. There was hardly any wind, so the second race was adjusted from the side to the red buoy once. The beginners had to work very hard to catch the wind in the sail to keep the boat moving forwards.
On the improver’s race, we had to race a triangle course. This was harder because we had to sail upwind, down wind and across wind. On the first race we went around the triangle course once and on the second race we went around twice. There was more wind on the improvers races than the beginners race that made us race faster.
We won lots of medals and Hollywood School won the overall primary school shield.
We all had a good time and we look forward to next year’s regatta and hope for some new Hollywood pupils to join us.

26.6.15 Kings Norton Tag Rugby

26.6.15 Kings Norton Tag Rugby

An exciting day lay ahead as Hollywood took their place amongst 20 teams who had been allocated World cup countries for this event. We were given Wales and all the children had to do homework about Wales for the event including the singing of Jerusalem at the opening ceremony.

In our group were the favourites St Lawrence A representing Australia, our first 3 games were losses 1-5, 2-4, & 4-6 as the children found their feet and space. Our last group game was a win 5-2 and we finished 4th in the group.

During lunch the children were taught the Haka by Mauri warrior and then went on an undefeated streak of 9-5, 5-5 & 7-7 to finish 14th out of 20, excellent for such a young team. The day was amazing and we all got a hamburger or hot dog from the Barbeque. A video of the day can soon be found on the school website.

Team – Henry F (14), George W (2), Billy H (5), Eddie F (2), James P (1), Jago G (4), Evie H (1), Sam N, Kirsty B

16.6.15 Boys football vs Meadow Green

16.6.15 Boys football vs Meadow Green

Coach Jae organised one final run out for some of the boys who had been to football club this half term. Opposition were Meadow Green who very rarely get to play matches so put out their best Y6’s against our Y4&5’s.

The game was close despite the difference in age with Alex and Harry scoring our goals. Unfortunately, Meadow Green scored four past us. The final score was a loss 2-4, but a mountain of experience for our young team.

11.6.15 Maypole Cup (Boys Football)

11.6.15 Maypole Cup (Boys Football)

Mr Platts got a front row seat of Hollywood’s strongest team and performances this year. 3 Wins and a draw in the first 4 games meant that Hollywood finished top of the round robin stages undefeated and favourites for the cup. Unfortunately football isn’t like that and the 2-0 win over Broadmeadow was reversed in the Semifinals and Hollywood were knocked out. Unlucky boys.
